Doctors are asked to help residents seeking family planning services
Members of Rwamagana district advisory committee have promised to change the residents' mindset on family planning programs especially health workers who delay the implementation of those programs.
During the meeting that Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) conducted with advisors, challenges that stop residents from using family planning methods were talked about.
Challenges include, residents misled by some religious leaders, residents negative attitude, men who think family planning is for women and workers who take little time to explain and encourage residents about the program.
Failure of the health workers to explain the importance of family planning and how one can switch from one method to another in case it didn't work for her makes residents believe in negative rumours about the program.
In addition, some health workers give bad reception to the residents telling them to come the next day or time when they had gone to seek advice and family planning services. This makes some of them to conceive or impregnant in the process.
Advisory committee members that turned up for the meeting said they are going to talk to community health workers and other concerned parties to help residents embrace family planning.
