Rwanda | Rusizi: Residents turn up for HIV/Aids testing Jul 12th 2012, 11:20 Tweet The main purpose of the fund was to sensitise residents to know their statuses as far as Aids is concerned. Rusizi district has funded Kamembe sector in a bid to help residents test for HIV/Aids. The plan entailed urging residents to use family planning methods like deprovera, Intra uterine device, Norplant and Pills. Rusizi district paid Rwf1.5 million and up to 573 people tested for HIV. Also the process was extended to the night so that prostitutes in Kamembe sector test without fear. Out of 573 people that turned up for testing exercise, 22    were found HIV positive without knowing but they got counseling on how to live longer. This act was organized by nurses of Gihumbwe health centre. Francine Mukayigire, a nurse and the event chairperson asked local leadership to protect the residents' lives by fighting Aids.
