In Giheke sector in Rusizi district a maternity house was opened on the 13th.July.2012 which was built with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and people appreciated it so much saying it saved them the long distances for at least 3 hours they would make to the nearest Bushenge hospital or health center in case of labour.
Residents of Giheke sector appreciate their local administration for finding for them right sponsors and getting them such a nice maternity and they vowed to keep it clean and hygienic.
Emmanuel Ndamuzeye the social affairs personnel in Rusizi district asked the residents to protect the infrastructure like these which will in turn protects their lives. He promised residents of Giheke sector that they will keep providing them with medical services which will help them have good health especially mothers so as to eradicate mother and infants deaths.
This maternity ward has 6 rooms, kitchens and sterilizing rooms and toilets and it was completed when it was worth more than 9 million francs.
