Local leaderships has been asked to put emphasize village settlements else residents build in prohibited places, according to Ancile Musabyemariya from National Land Centre.
During the meeting that gathered agriculture officials in Nyamasheke district and Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB), Ancile Musabyemariya asked people in charge of agriculture in sectors to put more effort in settling residents in villages.
Musabyemariya cautioned some leaders who let residents build houses in illegal places instead of putting them in villages. He asked them to corporate with village leaders and follow up on houses being set up outside the village program.
Local leaders were asked to encourage residents to live in recommended places and plant trees near the village roads to stop residents from building near the road.
Charles Bahizi, Vice mayor in charge of economic affairs says that residents should understand and leave shift from where they are and live in villages so as to get infrastructures like electricity and develop.
Bahizi adds that leaders should explain more on the importance of being in village settlements and take other measures to make them shift from prohibited places if necessary.
Out of 73,528 homes in Nyamasheke district, 39,897 live in village settlements.
