Senior six leavers who attend the National Civic Education programme in Karongi district explained why they nicknamed cooked maize seeds 'chicken'.

Students revealed this to the www.newsofrwanda.com on December 17th 2012, during the closing ceremony of Ingando (national civic education program).

Cooked maize seeds mixed with beans make the most served dish to the students that attend this program after completing senior six.

"Cooked maize seeds are nutritious and give strength to carry out activities required during civic education programme," explains students leader

Another one adds: "We call this meal chicken because it's delicious and makes us feel satisfied for long."

Apart from youth in Ingando, soldiers too call it chicken and others eggs. When you analyze it, the name is worthy because after this meal, one goes for long hours without hunger feeling.

Cooked maize seeds were the only meal that FPR soldiers fed on during the struggle to liberate Rwanda.
