Police Command exercise to curb cross border crimes Rwanda : Police Command exercise to curb cross border crimes

A police Command Post Exercise (PCPX) scheduled to take place on August 19 will focus on cross border crimes.

The exercise will be conducted at the Police General Headquarters in Kacyiru and will bring officers from twelve African countries including; Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan and the Republic of Sudan. Others are Somalia, Djibouti, Cyprus, Eretria, Ethiopia and Rwanda.

According to Assistant Commissioner of National Police Academy, Felix Namuhoranye, the purpose of the exercise is to have Police officers from the above mentioned countries trained together so they can acquire skills and knowledge that will help address cross boarder crimes in the Region.

"Cross border crimes have today become not only a regional threat but also a challenge to the whole world, it is therefore important that Police Institutions in the region have a similar knowledge and a more harmonized approach of handling the vice," said Namuhoranye.

The exercise which is the first of its kind will also be a platform to share best practices among the regional Police Institutions.

Each participating country police will be represented by five police officers, at the exercise.

Namuhoranye said, best practices need to be shared so as to improve on security in the region.

It is hoped that the Region will get common knowledge that will by all means help to to fight cross border crimes.

During the eight day exercise, Participants will be taken through lessons such as terrorism, cyber crimes, human trafficking and money laundering among others.
