The safety of census officials is guaranteed as they begin the population and housing data collection this week, for census purposes,Prosper Mutijima, census coordinator with The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda revealed to the press fraternity.
Recent reports have indicated that police in Gisagara has arrested and detained a 60-year-old woman for assaulting a census agent while on duty.
It's reported that census officials have encountered residents who provide false information or no information at all in Huye and Kamonyi districts of the Southern province.
The resistance mainly comes from members of Abagorozi, an unregistered religious sect, that do not comply with many government programs including health insurance and community service.
