Bugesera District inhabitants need medicine to clean water for drinking and for domestic use especially in this period when they are affected by lack of clean water as they fetch from swamps, it has been reported
According to Paul Sekamana a resident of Nyamata sector, people have a habit of believing that water from a stream from Rwakibirizi water source in Rwakibirizi village in Nyamata sector is clean and drink it uncooked. This water is not clean as people believe because cows drink from the same stream and make it dirty as well as children who defecate in its nearby places in the bushes.
"Water from this stream is clean and a certain white man who evaluated and said it is clean and safe so we don't boil it for drinking but if we can get medicine to make it pure it would save us from unhygienic problems." Paul Sekamana added.
Catherine Muhongera the in charge of social welfare in Nyamata sector said that water should be taken when it is clean and that they always tell this to people though most of them do what is contrary to what they are told.
"We always call upon them and explain to them that water should be drunk when boiled so as to avoid unhygienic diseases but most of them do not understand. Some believe that Rwakibirizi water source is pure but that is not true because it is just dirty water like any other water source and should be drank when boiled or with water cleaning medicine." Catherine Muhongera explained.
Rwakibirizi water source is what the Energy Water Sanitation Authority uses to distribute water to people in Nyamata town.
