Rwanda | Huye: From drug addiction into a drug fighting hero Jul 17th 2012, 08:02 Tweet Jean Bosco Habiyambere was for a longtime making and selling alcohol 'Nyirantare' which is considered a drug and prohibited in Rwanda. 45 aged Habiyambere is a resident of Cyimana cell in Tumba sector in Huye district. Jean Bosco Habiyambere (a.k.a) 'Sebagabo' Habiyambere (a.k.a) Sebagabo like his neighbors and security officials confirms he was jailed many times because of this alcohol. He confesses, "I could make it without minding about the lives of the consumers. I could mix water, tea, sugar; factory made manure, marijuana, and Aloe Vera and crushed red bricks to make the alcohol red." Pierre Gakuru, a neighbor of Habiyambere asserts: "I am shocked to see that he quit making nyirantare, because he was determined to continue though he faced prison so many times." Habiyambere explains he decided to drop the practice after watching some of his customers get sick and die. After changing for good, Habiyambere and his colleagues formed a cooperative 'Abisubiyeho' that brews the local beer and number one in fighting drug use.
