Some of the houses are not complete by occupied by residents
After a long time living in houses with no doors, 30 families in Kiziguro sector of Gatsibo district were on April 26th 2012 given 60 doors for the completion of their houses.
The total number of residents that occupied nyakatsi is 120 and though houses were built by residents in community work, some of the owners are not able to door their houses.
According to the districts statistics, out of 9591 residents that were in grass thatched houses, 5922 families were able to build houses for themselves and 3108 families were helped by the government through the participation of residents.
Gatsibo district authorities assert that former nyakatsi occupants that live in semi finished houses are 2320; those in complete houses are 1009 while 2261 houses in this area were reported to have no doors and being occupied by people due to poverty.
The district administration asks local leaders to work with residents so that former nyakatsi occupants get good shelter.
According to Kiziguro administration, there are 60 houses without doors but the sector has decided to help 30 poor families as advocacy is being done such that religions and private sectors can contribute for the other remaining houses.
While experts say that these residents' houses need to be cemented for longevity, former nyakatsi residents are thankful to the government for improving their lives by building them iron sheets roofed houses.
